POÇO Strengthens Its Commitment to Decarbonisation

6 de November, 2026

POÇO has received approval for its application to the DECARBONISATION programme, taking another step towards implementing measures aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy at its industrial facility.

This project is aligned with the objectives of Portugal’s National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 (PNEC 2030) and the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality 2050 (RNC 2050), reinforcing POÇO’s commitment to more efficient and sustainable industrial operations.

Following an energy audit, opportunities for improvement were identified in terms of reducing energy consumption and replacing equipment that relies on fossil fuels.

Based on this assessment, a series of measures are planned, including optimising the compressed air system, recovering heat for water heating, installing energy monitoring and control solutions, replacing forklifts and work platforms with electric equipment, and expanding the photovoltaic Self-Consumption Production Unit (UPAC).

Through efficient energy management, these measures will help reduce energy losses, optimise consumption according to the actual needs of industrial operations and recover thermal energy that would otherwise be wasted.

With an eligible investment of €681,811.77, the project is expected to achieve annual energy savings of 698.9 MWh (42.7%), a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 66.4 tonnes of CO₂ per year (25.6%), and annual financial savings of €86,173.00.

This investment represents another step in POÇO’s strategy to improve the efficiency of its industrial processes and contribute to the energy transition.
